1 St. Andrew Church Centennial A look back A world behind a mask. From January 1918 to December 1920, a deadly Influenza outbreak infected 500 million people across the world. Esmates suggest between 50 and 100 million people died from the virus, in other words, up to 5% of the planet's populaon. It killed more people than any other illness in recorded history, more even than the total number of deaths in WWI. O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm. You know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Pope Francis In Rome March 2020 Among the vicms were Saints Jacinta andfrancisco Marto, two of the three seers at Fama, Portugal, who died at nine and ten years of age (respecvely) in the outbreak. In October 1918, Jacinta told the third seer, older cousin Lucia dos Santos, that Mary had appeared to her and promised to take them to Heaven soon. She died on Feb 20, Her brother Francisco dies a year earlier. Sts. Jacinta and Francisco, pray for us! Church Office

5 Dear Parishioners, The readings this weekend relate the images of death and life. Here is the reading from Ezekiel 37 for our meditaon. The hand of the LORD came upon me, and he brought me out by the spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me all around them; there were very many lying in the valley, and they were very dry. He said to me, "Mortal, can these bones live?" I answered, "O Lord GOD, you know. Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones, and say to them O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. I will lay sinews on you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the LORD. So I prophesied as I had been commanded; and as I prophesied, suddenly there was a noise, a raling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. I looked, and there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them; but there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, mortal, and say to the breath Thus says the Lord GOD Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood on their feet, a vast multude. Then he said to me, "Mortal, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are cut off completely.' Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD I am going to open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, O my people; and I will bring you back to the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, O my people. I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you on your own soil; then you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken and will act," says the LORD. In these anxious day we need to renew our trust the promise of eternal life for those who are vicms of the pandemic. For those of us who are weighed down by anxiety and fear, let us prayer, deeply breathing in the Holy Spirit. The Holy spirit will bring us peace, direcon and make our own spirits posive and strong. Peace always, Fr. David
